  • The variety of settings that are available to children;
  • The expectations of placements including appropriate dress and behaviour;
  • The responsibilities and limits of the role of a childcare worker;
  • How to treat children with fairness and equality;
  • The different learning styles that people use.

Unit 2:

Development and well-being 0-5 years

  • The pattern of development of children from birth to 5 years;
  • How practitioners use observation and other assessment techniques to record data about developmental progress;
  • The factors that contribute to and can hinder development;

  • The transitions experienced by children and how to support them.

To take this course you must have an interest in working with and learning about children’s care and development.

As this course is about working with children we require that work experience placements are in a childcare setting. This is so that your knowledge and understanding can be supported in a practical way.
